Untitled Mumbo-jumbo
It’s good to cry right? I’ve been finding myself crying a lot lately. The pressures of job hunting month after month, year after year is wearing me thin. And I don’t mean physically..
You know.. Just because you can’t articulate something, doesn’t mean you don’t know the answer. Think about it though…what’s preventing you?
As much as I talk about wanting a job, I’m scared about what it will mean once I have one. I want a career, that implies long term. But I have never been one to be good at consistency or commitment. Most of my jobs ended by 12-13 months, for various reason. I kept a couple jobs in college for longer, but they were part time with school being my primary priority. With most of my jobs, I have gone in knowing the end date. With a career job, you’re in it for the long haul. What will I do? What if I don’t like it? If I ever had a problem, I always knew the end was coming. Not so, with this next job I hope to get. What if I fail? I’m stuck and have to deal with it and move past it. I can’t just ignore it and suffer til I reach the end of my time. I won’t have an escape route. But then again, if it’s the right job for me..I will love it and make it work, right?

Sarah.
Oh bless you kind unnamed sir who I just spoke with on the phone.
[after answering his questions, we were about to hang up..]
“What was your name again please?”
“Sarah”
“Oh, heh. Do you know what that means ma’am?”
“Yup, princess!”
“Hahaha, who told you that?”
“Uhh..mmm..”
“Well it means much more than that. It does mean princess, which any young lady would appreciate, but it’s from the Aramaic root stem name Sarai. The amplified Aramaic meaning is ..(he seriously inserted a dramatic pause here before slowly proceeding).. she who is God’s precious princess …”
^ I like that. What a sweet old man.

Aggies Ball!
Today was so great… But I’m tired and will talk about it…Tomorrow. Later.

Every pitter-patter of rain on my window is another note of Your love song to me.
The skies are gray but the clouds inside are breaking.
The Son is slowly pushing through and I unfold to its warmth.
I keep breathing like each breath is my last.
The rain eases and I hear “it’s okay, go outside now”

Customers
I started off a post and realized all I was rambling about was work. work. work. Literally. So I deleted it and am starting over.
WHEW.
I work at a little coffee shop part time. This morning was great!
It all began with a little boy, the grandson of one of my regulars. He was the most polite kid I’ve ever met. “Yes Ma’am” this, “may I please have a chocolate” that.. He was carrying a blue lightsaber, my first indication that he was awesome. Then he started USING it! I watched as he extended it and began skillfully jousting the open space in front of him. What a pro.
Later on, a guy walks in — a first-timer, I could tell. As I began steaming the milk for his latte, I proceeded with some casual small talk. I found out he works for NASA! SWEEEET.
A group of four Russians came in…they were on their way back to Russia having just finished a vacation to Mexico.
One of our best (because she’s THAT awesome) regulars, Joy, came in. She’s a model-actress and is starting up her own school! She bought her usual and sat down at the bar to chill for a while. As she got up to leave, she came by the register and left some flyers with us. I hope this endeavor of hers is abundantly successful!
A Scottish guy, and I presume his girlfriend?, came in. She wanted a dirty soy chai. He wanted a double latte, with a flavor. “Cam-o-il?” I’m sorry…what was that? Chamomile? We don’t have that flavor, I thought to myself….that’s a type of tea though. His girlfriend pipped up “he means Caramel” OOOOOH. I LOVED his accent. Every time he comes in, I always enjoy talking (mostly listening) to him. He joked that he has trouble with pronunciations…that’s okay, I have trouble hearing.
Jim is great. He’s a voice — you know, the voice you hear when you can’t see the person talking…like on commercials, instructional videos, audio books, etc. I saw a little Smart Car drive up and out hopped Jim! When I commented on his car (it’s so cute), he chucked and replied “our other car is a big Cadillac SUV!” That’s hilariously awesome!
My sweet friend Angie came in to bum off our wifi and study for the GMAT, which she’s taking this week! (Good luck!!) After I got off, I plopped down and her table and we talk and caught up. We haven’t gotten to hangout in a couple of weeks. We talked for 3 hours!
Another is a courthouse cop, one bought a bottle of wine to celebrate his acceptance into grad school, Maria speaks Portuguese, one has won numerous indie film awards, Cook..is actually is last name, one guy insists he can’t have ANY caffeine but he always orders a decaf Americano (decaf still has caffeine)…
I love my customers.

Hello again!
I missed a couple days, lo siento! Not that I ever planned to write in this everyday anyway. (heh heh)
I’ve been busy! Let’s start with 1/11/11:
My cousin birthed twins! Two beautiful baby girls.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! What should a new mother do? Rest, control pain, and BOND WITH HER BABY(S)! After work I, along with most of the family, went by the hospital to congratulate my cousins. I’d never seen a newborn before! Babies, yes..but never a newborn. They’re so tiny! I didn’t realize they come out complete with nails and everything. I got to hold little Marguerite. I was SO NERVOUS!

While being held by her Mom, Marian got hungry! She started smacking her lips, loudly — and we all knew it was time to go. We were getting pretty hungry too, so the family migrated over to a nearby seafood restaurant. It was a pretty standard dinner, but one highlight is that my uncle ordered Oyster Chips. Basically a fried oyster atop a Tostitos chip, and then covered in pico. It was mighty delicious.
On to yesterday!
Wednesday is small group night. One of the couples in my group were missionaries in Tanzania, as well as all these other places around the world. In their travels, they learned how to cook lots of ethnic foods. They brought authentic Indian Biryani for dinner: rice, chicken, potatoes, and lots of herbs. There were veggies, pita bread, and homemade double-chocolate cookies too! They even brought the drink, a cardamom-rosemary iced tea? I don’t remember what it was…except delicious!
Then I hit up Agora with Kaleb and his friend Jesus. Agora is a great coffee bar in town that caught fire on the night of Halloween last year. Only (though it felt long in reality..only!) 3 months later, it’s been rebuilt with slight renovations. Last night was their first night open and that place was boomin’! It felt just like the place I used to know, if not just a bit more well lit. This was painted on the wall outside:

Oh. And then Kaleb schooled me in Chess.

Costco
It was busy at work yesterday! Not productive busy, but my phone WOULD. NOT. stop ringing! I was really looking forward to dinner too, because I was getting to see a buddy from school. I was worried we wouldn’t get to hang out before he left for the semester.
I gave the dinner options for: Olive Garden, Canes, or Freebirds. He chose Olive Garden—which is perfect because I had a coupon! Get 1 free appetizer or dessert with the purchase of 2 entrées. We got the sampler with Calamari and Stuffed Mushrooms. Then I got Toscana Soup (my fave!) and Eggplant Parmigiana. And water, with lime. Kris had Baked Ziti.
After dinner we had some time to kill, so we looked for a Starbucks and ended up at Costco :) Right as you walk into the store, we saw a display of Samsung 55” 1080P LED Edge Lit LCD HDTVs aka 3D TVs.

SUPER COOL! But they cost…dun dun dun..$3199.99. Fortunately for the buyer, 2 pairs for glasses are included.
We meandered around the store into the edibles area. This is why I’m glad I’m not a dog…aren’t these considered a delicacy for them or something?

Duck Breasts and Pig Ears. Don’t get me wrong, duck is amazing. Peking Duck is one of my favorites, and Pig Ears probably aren’t all that bad if cooked properly. I mean, I like other parts of pigs… But as much as I like meat, that was not appealing. Especially after our hearty Olive Garden meal.
After a while longer, we left and went to Best Buy. I miss Best Buy, it’s a good store. While watching some customers test the Kinect (HAHAH!) I discovered my phone died. So I found an iHome and plugged it in. [charging]. WHOOP! It worked! I went to the Apple store once, specifically to charge my phone. I’m USUALLY really good about keeping it charged, but when I forget my charger…there’s nothing I can do. Oops.

Facelogic
Have you heard of Groupon?
Along with a friend of mine, I purchased a facial. Today was the day.I’ve never had a facial before…or a massage for that matter. I wasn’t even sure what a facial all consisted of. “Well,” said the lady at the front desk, “you’re in for a treat!” For the most part it was pretty great. I would rate it a 9.6 out of 12.
BUT…
There was something called extraction. Of blackheads. Sure, most people have blackheads right? Well..as my aesthetician was about to begin this extraction process, I asked what she uses. Her fingers? No. She then proceeded to tell me that she would be using a stainless steel tool with a loop on it, and a flat part, which allows her to squeeze and scrape out the blackhead.
OH GREAT. Then I felt it…
..I’m not a fan of having my face prodded.

See those shoes? One of my coffee customers bought these shoes today and brought them in to show me. The lighting is off so you don’t get the full effect of each shoe. She’s a 40(?)-some year old lawyer, with the most fun and joyful spirit. I could never pull off those shoes, but I bet she will :)

Fumes..

I must admit I was running on fumes today.
I hit up two birthday parties last night: first bowling for Diddy, then dancing with Jackie. I finally made it home and caught 3 hours of sleep before waking up for work!
[insert: phone call]
A good friend of mine had a baby last night! Please y’all be praying for him and his family…the babe came a weeeee bit early (by a few weeks!)Work, visited Grandparents, Ecclesia (my church, pictured above), nap, Office Space, homemade spinach dip experiment, opened a wedding invite, tagged Facebook photos, cleaned room…and now here I am tumbling on Tumblr.
OH! I met the Utah Jazz broadcaster today! If you know me, you may catch the significance of this. Or at least realize why I think it’s so stinkin’ cool!!! I gave him my business card, like a pro.
Kaput.Kaput.put.put.
Goodnight.

Quick.Quick.Slow…
Lets see what I can do with this little Tumblr-thing-a-ma-gigger-dealio.
I will pretend that this will actually be read by someone who somewhat cares about what goes on in this little life of mine. You may find that it’s quite interesting, I do. I’m always surprised by the happenstances of this life and…so I’ve been told..I’m quirky. Everyone loves a little quirk in their life, right? Maybe.
So, hello.

Step One.
I went Two-Steppin’ last night.
As I walked in, I immediately saw three friends…whom I had no idea would be there. CRAZY! Girl 1, I knew from waaaaay back freshman year of college. Girl 2, a close friend I met (even further back!) in middle school through a cousin. Boy 1, that I met a few summers ago at church camp where we were both counselors. They were all standing by the bar getting..water. How they all came to know each other, I have no clue—because in my mind (or so I thought) they have no connection!
I greet them with the standard socially obligatory hugs and “omg how are you, how have you beeeeeeen?!” (I am the dunce of small talk…but queen of awkward silences.) And up walks Boy 2, who invited me to this whole shindig—and who is even further unrelated to the previous 3 folks.
Still…4 friends, 1 party, for a super-awesome birthday girl (with whom I was briefly acquainted prior to last night) and way too much spinning.
But best of all………there was a DISCO SADDLE lighting up the ol’ dance floor!
